As someone who focused too much on leg days, this year, I want to improve my upper body strength — specifically my arms, shoulders, and lower back. Influenced by my For You Page, I incorporated more Pilates-inspired movements into my strength training workouts to target those specific muscle groups. While researching different exercises to do at home (aka carefully observing Melissa Wood Health workouts and scrolling my feeds), I discovered the chicest dumbbell set: the WeGym Dumbbell Set ($160).

The brand makes aesthetically pleasing gym equipment that’s supposed to make your space look elevated and work with your interiors — and it’s Melissa Wood Health-approved. After all, it’s more motivating to work out in a space that looks more like a boutique fitness studio than a cold garage. The WeGym dumbbells come in four muted colors and have a sleek, luxe look, and after using them, they actually improved my workouts.

Keep reading my full review to see why the WeGym Dumbbell Set is a must have for your at-home gym.

What I Like About the WeGym Dumbbell Set

With muted colors and geometric shapes, the WeGym dumbbells are aesthetically pleasing — but they’re also functional. The durable PVC shell delivers a uniform look and ensures an anti-slip, secure grip. Plus, the coating is thick and soft textured, so the dumbbells aren’t too rough on my hands and I can forgo my lifting gloves. Their square shape adds a contemporary look to your space and prevents rolling when in motion; the squareness also helps me perform renegade rows and push-ups properly without me having to worry about being thrown off balance.

Unlike other at-home dumbbell sets, the WeGym Dumbbell Set has weight increments that are more gradual, increasing by only 1 to 3 pounds per dumbbell. Others on the market usually increase by five, which can be an intense jump if you’re working on strengthening your upper body. For example, I can easily perform 5-pound lateral raises, but 10 pounds is too much for me to handle. The 8-pound dumbbell is the perfect transition weight to help me increase my strength in an effort to reach the 10-pound milestone.

What to Consider Before Trying the WeGym Dumbbell Set

If you prefer to lift heavier, the WeGym Dumbbell Set only goes up to 20 pounds, and the brand’s kettlebells go up to 25 pounds. However, because the set’s pieces increase in weight gradually, it’s beneficial for workouts that rely on increasing reps rather than progressive weight overload.

Who Is the WeGym Dumbbell Set Best For?

The WeGym Dumbbell Set is ideal for anyone who wants to improve their strength and resistance training at home. I highly recommend this set if you’re a beginner at lifting or prefer low-impact workouts like Pilates or barre.
